Asthma
◈ Definition
: Recurrent episodes of airway obstruction that resolve spontaneously or as a result of treatment.
♬ Airway obstruction의 가역성“ → chronic obstructive lung disease와의 감별 point.
♬ 최근의 정의 ❶ Clinical : 가역 적인 기도 폐색의 증상
❷ Pathophysiological : 기도의 과민성
❸ Pathologic : 기도의 염증성 반응을 보이는 질환
◈ Epidemiology & Statistics
: US population의 4%. 대개 25세 이전에 시작되지만 어느 연령에서나 발생 가능
Younger patients : Male predominant
Older patients : Female predominant

1) Pathologic process of airway obstruction
① airway smooth muscle의 constriction
② airway epithelium의 thickening
③ the presence of liquids within the confines of the airway lumen
